3. Selection and Change of Thesis Advisor
- At student registration, a brief summary of the faculty’s areas of research will be issued by the Department. Interviews will be arranged with the Department faculty within 2 weeks of registration, followed by the completion of the thesis advisor preferences form.
- Once the student has completed the preferences form, the Department Affairs Committee will be convened to assign thesis advisors based on student preferences and the wishes of the professors. Those that were not assigned a thesis advisor may make a second application. If a thesis advisor was still not assigned after the second application then a thesis advisor will be assigned directly by the Department Affairs Committee.
- The assignment of thesis advisors to students by the Department Affairs Committee is final. Once assigned, the thesis advisor cannot be changed except in special circumstances.
- If the thesis advisor is unable to provide further guidance for any reason, another professor from the Department may be invited to provide guidance or act as co-advisor with the consent of the original thesis advisor, or by the Head of the Department with the consent of the original thesis advisor.
- Applications for change of thesis advisor are in principle limited to once only. The thesis advisor may require an extension to the study period as long as it falls within the limit on study period.
4. Course and credit transfers
- The student must complete at least 24 credits between admission and the obtaining of the Masters degree.
- The student must enroll in and pass at least three of the six following courses: Advanced Transport Phenomena, Advanced Reaction Engineering (Advanced Chemical Reaction Engineering), Advanced Thermodynamics (Advanced Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics), Advanced Material Physics, Material Analysis and Identification, and Soft Matter.
- Graduation credits must include studying and passing at least one course each from the fields of Chemical Engineering and Material Sciences.
- The student must complete two semesters of Seminars and two semesters of directed research course before graduation.
- Credit wavers shall be processed in accordance with the Department’s “Master’s Program Course Credit Waiver Guidelines.”
5. Degree Examination
Once the student satisfies all the course and credit requirements within the specified period, they may apply for Master’s degree thesis examination in accordance with the “NCU Regulations on Degree Examinations for Postgraduate Student.” The Masters’ degree in Engineering Science is conferred once they pass the Master’s degree thesis examination.
